| MacDonald Cottage |
The MacDonald Cottage
is a two story house in its own garden, sitting on the hill overlooking the rivers across the highway, about a half-mile from the main complex of the Silver River Adobe Inn. This is the original family home, built in 1919, of your host David Beers, whose grandmother Lucille Reilley MacDonald designed her home as an Irish cottage with a southwest flair using local sandstone from a cliff higher on the hill.
She used the stone mason who later helped the archeologist Earl Morris restore the Great Kiva at Aztec Ruins National Monument, a World Heritage site about 15 miles up-river from our Bed and Breakfast. David’s Aunt Eleanor MacDonald also wrote the definitive pioneer history of Farmington with John Arrington, My kingdom was a County. so our guests can experience some of Farmington’s early history staying here.
The cottage was elaborately renovated to the most modern 21st century expression in 2010, yet it maintains its historical warmth. A massive sandstone fireplace stands along one wall of the living room, which also has a semi-circular couch facing a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, and opens into a full kitchen and dining room. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom suite and two single beds in the upstairs bedroom and sitting room.

two more persons to rest, with ceiling fans and a corner set of
French doors looking out to the River; the kitchen and bathroom are
adorned with Mexican Tile. The outdoor sitting area allows a continued
view of the river with sun or shade plus the Cliffside roses flowering
in May.
